Who doesn’t like to make an entrance? Foyers are one of my favorite spots to set the tone for the homeowner, as well as the style of the house. This space can be formal with a center table, a vase full of flowers and seating or more casual with a console table, a lamp, a place for keys, a stack of books and a mirror to check your reflection before you dash off again. Have fun with it!
This is where we live. These spaces get the most love as we gather with our favorite people, hear giggling children spilling over sofas, watch current sporting events, share a cocktail with our best friends or read a book under a cherished lamp. Because this space is so sacred, it is crucial that the seating be comfortable, the lighting appropriate for certain tasks, there are surfaces for drinks, books or collectables and the homeowners’ needs are met.
Who doesn’t love a party, a gathering of friends or a special dinner with your family? A dining room should be filled with laughter, delicious aromas, music and, of course, a beautiful meal. I equally adore a breakfast table for smaller groups and simpler menus. Tables can be round, oval or square, formal or industrial but comfortable seating is a must so that conversations can linger.
The way to anyone’s heart…is through the kitchen. I love designing kitchens with chic colors, hidden and functional storage, state-of-the-art appliances and beautiful countertops and finishes. We spend much of our time in this space, so we should invest in making it both practical and exceptional in design.
We spend most of our time in our bedrooms, so they should promote good health and relaxation after long days of activities. I prefer a more peaceful palette when choosing colors for this space. Equal attention must be paid to soft furnishings, adequate lining for draperies and window treatments and of course a beautiful bed.
Bright colors, functionality and cheerful artwork are the name of the game when designing children’s spaces. I love baskets and cubbies to keep organizing a breeze, practical fabrics and furnishings that can be washed easily, closets and drawers that are in close reach and of course, COLOR! Children love to see their artwork on the wall, so select some favorite pieces, interchanging frames, and you have an automatic art gallery!
